Survivors of abuse and violence against women in NI share testimonies in new book

A new book has been released featuring the testimonies of Northern Irish women who are the survivors of abuse, violence and harassment amid a call for new laws to protect women. Women's charity Through Her Eyes released an anthology that highlights women's voices and shares stories of abuse, harassment and medical negligence. The book is designed to give women a voice and show readers that this type of abuse is common and happening to many women , not only in Northern Ireland but across the world. The charity also hopes it will help to generate support of reform in the justice system, such as its call for a mandatory seven day jail term for those who breach non-molestation orders. Co-leader of Through Her Eyes , Joanne Taylor said: "We want to be able give women a platform to be heard and that is an amazing privilege. The book has a few benefits, firstly it gives a voice to women who have been silenced. Secondly, it will act as a point of reference for our petition to have a mandatory seven day jail term for those who breach non-molestation orders, and thirdly it is both educational and inspiring for the women who read it. "These stories show women that they are not alone, and the advice on domestic violence, family court and health care will hopefully also help women to feel less alone in their situation. We want to thank everyone who submitted their stories, we are aware of what it took to do that, and your choice to submit your story to help many other women is a testament to your strength and dignity." The book, entitled Through Her Eyes, is available through all major online retailers and in paperback format. Royalties received through book sales will be donated to Women's Aid NI .
