An unexpected move from Meghan Markle (Duchess of Sussex) paves the way for a proper Suits sequel series to finally come to fruition. During its 9-season run on USA Network, Aaron Korsh's legal drama amassed a solid following, although it was nothing compared to the subsequent success it garnered when it arrived on streaming. In 2023, 4 years after the show wrapped its original broadcast, Suits dominated Netflix, breaking various records for the platform. Calls for a Suits revival immediately started. Granted that the show ended on a satisfying send-off despite issues with its overall final season. The problem was that it was almost impossible to re-assemble the original cast for a continuation because of Markle's retirement from acting in light of her marriage to Prince Harry. As a compromise, Korsh expanded the franchise instead with the short-lived Suits LA. It was clear from its premiere, however, that it wouldn't satisfy the interest in the original show. Now, however, a new update on Markle's Hollywood status is opening the doors for a proper Suits follow-up show. Meghan Markle Is Officially Returning To Acting After appearing in non-fiction projects such as her documentary with Prince Harry, not to mention her lifestyle show, With Love, Meghan, Markle is officially returning to acting. The Duchess of Sussex will have a cameo in the film Close Personal Friends, which stars Brie Larson, Jack Quaid, Henry Golding, and Lily Collins. Markle was spotted filming her appearance in the Amazon MGM project, where she will reportedly play herself. Granted that she won't be taking a different role, this is still an acting return for the Duchess, since her previous on-screen projects are rooted in reality. It's also a positive indication that she is willing to get back into acting in a bigger capacity moving forward. Markle's Hollywood Movie Is A Step Closer To The Much-Clamored Suits Sequel Series Admittedly, there were other challenges that has made a proper Suits follow-up difficult to make. The rest of the cast members are busy with their own projects, and it would be tricky to convince all of them to come back. That said, arguably the biggest hurdle was Markle's retirement from acting. Much of the clamor for a continuation is centered on learning what Harvey, Mike, Donna, and Rachel are doing in Seattle after the finale. It would be odd to tackle that if any one of those characters weren't participating. With Markle dipping her toes back to acting, Korsh might be eager to make Suits season 10 now. While it likely won't be a long-term show, a limited series would still be better than nothing at all. Because of her British Royal Family status then, Rachel has made another appearance on Suits since Markle left the show. So to see her again after all these years, even just for a brief catch-up, is a narrative possibility worth exploring. It might not happen anytime soon, but it's great to know that the option is there. At this point, seeing the original cast, plus some special cameos, is better than forcing another expansion to take advantage of Suits' popularity. Enjoy ScreenRant's primetime coverage?
