Success Story: Uttar Pradesh Rickshaw Puller's Son Cracked UPSC In First Attempt

UPSC Success Story: Every year, millions of students attempt the UPSC Civil Services Examination, one of India’s toughest exams, but only a few succeed. Among these successful candidates is Govind Jaiswal, who, at just 22 years old, passed the exam on his first attempt, securing an all-India rank of 48th. His story is a testament to struggle and hard work, serving as an inspiration to all aspiring civil servants. (iasgovindjaiswal/Instagram) Govind Jaiswal’s life was marked by struggles. During his studies, he found deep inspiration in the film “Ab Dilli Door Nahin,” which sparked a passion in him to become an IAS officer regardless of the circumstances. His father, Narayan Jaiswal, played a crucial role in realising his son’s dreams. Despite living in financial hardship in Varanasi, he tirelessly worked to support Govind Jaiswal’s education. (Photo: News18 Hindi) Govind Jaiswal faced a major setback when his mother passed away in 1995. His father sold 20 of his 35 rickshaws to pay for her treatment but could not save her. Her passing added more responsibilities to his family. Govind Jaiswal’s father’s hard work and sacrifice eventually paid off. Despite facing many problems, Govind Jaiswal persevered with his studies and became an IAS officer, passing the UPSC exam in 2006 on his first attempt. To overcome this, Narayan Jasiwal sold his remaining 14 rickshaws, leaving only one, which he began driving himself. Thus, a man who once owned several rickshaws became a rickshaw driver to fund his son’s education. Govind Jaiswal completed his B.Sc in Mathematics from Government Degree College, Varanasi.
