Since her first cancer diagnosis in 2023, Amy Dowden has been very open about her journey, but this week she revealed to fans that she would have to have another mastectomy procedure. The Strictly dance pro was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer two years ago and underwent both a mastectomy and chemotherapy on the road to recovery. It was a road littered with tough setbacks that saw her almost die from sepsis, and she was forced to undergo fertility treatment. After having to pull out of the latest series of the popular BBC show, she revealed the reason to her fans and followers online with a short statement. Taking to her social media, she began with 'As you all know, I've always been very open about my health and the care I received. So I'd like to start by being clear that what I am about to share is not to treat a new cancer diagnosis. However, following a recent appointment with my incredible medical team, we've decided that I'll be having another mastectomy this week.' Staying positive, the star continued by stating, 'They're confident that, all going well, I can expect a straightforward recovery. Once I have healed, I look forward to rejoining my strict family.' And while she may not be able to finish off the rest of the series, she reassures fans that she won't be missing out on what is to come. 'Of course I'm going to miss not being there so much, but I will be watching from home and look forward to cheering everyone on. Thank you always for all the support. Welsh love Amy,' finishing with love heart emojis and kisses. Her experience of fighting cancer the first time around, Amy recalled how people thought she was 'fine' once she was cancer-free, but the reality was anything but. 'After I rang the bell came the longest journey of recovery, and I think people think you're fine afterwards, but you're really not,' Amy said. Speaking on Lorraine in the past, she told the hosts about her ongoing treatment regimen, which includes receiving an injection at the oncology unit once a month for five years, and she still has to take medication. Heading into this procedure, the professional dancer remains positive and is determined to return to the dancefloor once again.
