Strictly's Amy Dowden supported as she makes health announcement weeks after show exit

Strictly Come Dancing professional dancer Amy Dowden has announced she is to undergo "another mastectomy this week". The 35-year-old said the surgery was "not to treat a new cancer diagnosis" but came following an appointment with her "incredible" medical team. Amy previously underwent a mastectomy and chemotherapy after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023, leaving her unable to compete in that year’s edition of the BBC dancing show. On Monday (November 3), she posted a video on Instagram confirming the news, alongside which the Welsh dancer wrote: "As you all know I’ve always been very open about my health and the care I receive. So I’d like to start by being clear that what I am about to share is not to treat a new cancer diagnosis. "However, following a recent appointment with my incredible medical team, we’ve decided that I’ll be having another mastectomy this week. They’re confident that, all going well, I can expect a straightforward recovery "Once I have healed I look forward to rejoining my strictly family. Of course I’m going to miss not being there so much but I will be watching from home and look forward to cheering everyone on. Thank you always for all the support. Welsh love Amy." And she was quickly flooded with love and support. Strictly co-star Karen Hauer said: "Sending all the love," while Jowita Przystal replied: "Sending lots of love." Dianne Buswell shared: "We love you Amy." Former Strictly dance partner and McFly star Tom Fletcher commented: "All the love to you my wonderful friend," while his wife, I'm A Celebrity winner and podcast host, Giovanna Fletcher gushed: "Love you!!!" @baldbooblessandbeautiful shared: "Hope it goes well for you lovely. Your pink sisters are all here right behind you in whatever way you need us." @leanne3050 posted: "Ahh I’m so sorry Amy but your medical team are looking after you which is the main thing. Good luck with the surgery and rest up afterwards." @jayne.mulraine replied: "This incredible woman is the definition of a warrior. Always smiling when times are tough. Know you have an army of supporters behind you." @ashleigh_sarah_luckhurst added: "Sending love to you Amy. Best wishes for a fast recovery The surgery comes after Amy's upsetting early exit from Strictly's 2025 series. She was competing in the 2025 run of the BBC One dance contest alongside former Apprentice candidate Thomas Skinner. But the pair were sadly revealed to be the first couple leaving the competition this year when the first results show of the show's 23rd series took place on October 5. They lost their place on the show after they had performed an unexpected salsa to Bonkers by Dizzee Rascal and Armand van Helden during week two, which earned them just a two from judge Craig Revel Horwood.
