The Pittsburgh Steelers didn’t make any moves at the NFL trade deadline, aggravating their fanbase in the process. They did, however, just steal a player from the Kansas City Chiefs. Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 has reported that the Steelers have signed defensive tackle Brodric Martin off the Chiefs’ practice squad, which is intriguing given Pittsburgh’s need for help in defending the run. The Western Kentucky product entered the NFL in 2023 and played a grand total of five games over two seasons with the Lions, managing just four tackles while appearing in 53 defensive snaps overall. Detroit waived him shortly before the start of the 2025 campaign, which was when Kansas City scooped him up. The 6-foot-5, 326-pound Martin is definitely an interesting player because of his size, and there is no doubt he was an effective player on the collegiate level. The Steelers’ run defense has definitely improved in recent weeks, and last Sunday, Pittsburgh held the Indianapolis Colts’ rushing attack to just 55 yards. But there is no doubt the Steelers could use some extra depth in the trenches. Pittsburgh selected Derrick Harmon in the first round of the NFL Draft last April, but the rookie has struggled tremendously early on, owning a 39.3 run defense grade over at Pro Football Focus. Fellow defensive tackle Keeanu Benton hasn’t been much better, posting a 41.3 mark in that category. The Steelers are clearly all in on a Super Bowl this year, considering they have 41-year-old Aaron Rodgers under center, which is why their lack of activity at the trade deadline was frustrating. Obviously, the Steelers saw something in Martin that they liked. Pittsburgh is 6-3 and will face the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday night.
