St. Ignatius to begin national search for new football coach after Ryan Franzinger’s resignation

CLEVELAND, Ohio — St. Ignatius is beginning a national search for its next football coach. The school announced Monday afternoon in a press release that Ryan Franzinger has resigned from the position after three seasons since he succeeded the legendary Chuck Kyle. Franzinger played for Kyle and went on to Ohio State at linebacker. “The school expresses its sincerest gratitude to Coach Franzinger, who will remain on staff as a theology teacher, for his dedication and service to the football program and for his unwavering commitment to the school’s mission,” the school issued in a press release. “In the coming days, Saint Ignatius High School will launch a national search for the next Head Varsity Football Coach. Interested candidates should email the school at football1886@ignatius.edu. They finished 1-10 and were just 5-29 in Franzinger’s three seasons as head coach. A 2002 graduate of the school, he previously served as defensive coordinator for Kyle. St. Ignatius is among Ohio’s all-time winningest programs with 11 state championships, all under Kyle, who led the program for 40 seasons. The school’s last state crown in football came in 2011.
