Wearing No. 61, she lined up at defensive tackle. She played on Duxbury’s freshman team last year. ▪ Latin Academy clinched the Boston City League football title with a 20-0 shutout of Brighton. Jack Shapiro threw and ran for scores as the Dragons finished the regular season 7-1 overall and 3-0 in league play. ▪ With a 23-7 win over Newton South, Acton-Boxborough football (5-3, 3-1) secured a share of the Dual County League Foley title with Weston (6-2, 3-1). ▪ Archbishop Williams (8-0) completed an undefeated regular season with a 22-0 win over Cathedral that also secured the Catholic Central League Small championship. ▪ A pair of State Vocational girls’ soccer champions were crowned Friday: Bristol-Plymouth won the Large School title, 3-1, over Greater Lowell on a pair of goals from Zoey Onuegbu and one from Hannah Slavin. Blue Hills captured the Medium School title with a 3-1 win over Blackstone Valley thanks to a pair of tallies from Elizabeth Green and a goal and assist from Jenna Lehane. ▪ Canton supplied the biggest surprise of the night, erasing an early 10-0 deficit to defeat No. 9 Mansfield, 28-16. It was the Bulldogs’ first win over the Hornets since 1990. ▪ No. 18 Milton won a Bay State thriller against No. 5 Natick, 21-14, on Patrick Collins’s fourth-quarter touchdown pass to Patrick Mason, who also scored on an 82-yard punt return in the second quarter. ▪ In a big Hockomock League showdown, North Attleborough, ranked No. 16 in the Globe Top 20 poll, took down No. 11 Foxborough, 17-14, on Nick Torres’s 29-yard field goal as time expired. ▪ It wasn’t an upset, but No. 17 Andover was the fourth Globe Top 20 team to falter Friday night, via a surprise 41-14 rout at the hands of No. 13 Tewksbury. ▪ In the Division 4 field hockey bracket, No. 18 Ipswich took out No. 15 Clinton, 2-1, in the first round on a goal and assist from Ella McCarthy. ▪ Atlantis Charter (4-5) had to forfeit its senior night football game to Upper Cape because it scheduled nine games, a violation of MIAA rules. ▪ Nashoba Valley Tech had its game against Lynn Tech suspended with 7 minutes, 48 seconds left in the second quarter due to a power outage. The game resumes at 2 p.m. Saturday with the Vikings leading, 16-0. Normally this is the space where we run through the best individual performances of the night, but what stood out tonight was just how many big special teams plays were made. ▪ Jeremiah Berrios returned a kick 63 yards to pay dirt for Chicopee in a 34-8 win over Northampton. ▪ Doherty’s Jayden Orhin ripped off a 65-yard punt return touchdown in a 31-0 win over Tantasqua that also featured an 85-yard pick-6 from Richard Darko Antwi. ▪ Milton’s Patrick Mason returned a punt 82 yards for a touchdown in a 21-14 win over No. 5 Natick. ▪ Tewksbury’s Jonny Sullivan ran a punt back 60 yards to score in a 41-14 win over No. 17 Andover. ▪ Sean Dolen’s 78-yard kickoff return touchdown served as Winthrop’s only trip to the end zone in a 7-6 Northeastern win over Gloucester, a game that ended when the Fishermen’s Cam Olsen was tackled on the 2-yard line after catching a Hail Mary pass. ▪ North Attleborough’s Nick Torres drilled a 29-yard field goal as time expired for a 17-14 Hockomock League win over Foxborough. ▪ It wasn’t special teams, but we would be remiss not to mention again Jake Marcell’s 81-yard pick-6 that stood as the winner in Canton’s first win over No. 9 Mansfield in 35 years. Also from the not-special-teams category: Tyson Kimbrough-Farmer’s 100-yard scoop-and-score for Blue Hills in a 62-22 romp over Southeastern. Emerson senior Bri Frongillo, a Hopedale graduate, was named to the D3Hoops Preseason All-America team. The reigning NEWMAC Athlete of the Year, Frongillo started all 19 games last season, averaging a league-high 22.5 points and 5.2 assists per game. She is the first Emerson player to earn preseason All-America honors. Beverly senior Domenic Panniello-Torres, who previously played for Bishop Fenwick, announced his decision to play men’s basketball at Nichols. He also plays for North Shore Sports Academy.
