Officials said the men were captured while attempting to flee toward Mogadishu following a brief clash with clan militia members. SUPPLIED Mogadishu (HOL) — Security forces in the Galmudug regional administration have arrested six men accused of killing an 80-year-old woman and wounding her son in a clan-related attack that has stirred widespread outrage across Somalia. Authorities said the suspects were intercepted while travelling toward Mogadishu after sustaining injuries during a brief gunfight with militia members linked to the slain woman’s clan. Officials identified them as Abdikafi Mohamed Ahmed, Abdullahi Hassan Dahir, Mohamed Abdi Abdulle, Suudi Dahir Kaahiyo, Qaasin Ahmed Jimale, and Mohamed Abdi Heedar. Colonel Khaliif Abdulle Maalin, commander of the Galmudug regional police, confirmed the arrests on Monday, saying the operation was based on intelligence provided by local residents. “These men will be brought before the court without delay so that justice is served,” Colonel Khaliif told Hiiraan Online. The attack took place two nights ago in the Guudoole area when armed assailants stormed the home of the elderly woman, fatally shooting her and injuring her son. Security officials said the assault appeared to be an act of clan revenge, part of a cycle of retaliatory killings that have periodically destabilized central Somalia. The murder has sparked public condemnation from citizens and community leaders, who called on authorities to enforce justice and intensify reconciliation efforts to prevent further violence. Clan-based revenge attacks remain one of the primary drivers of insecurity in central Somalia, where weak local governance and limited policing allow disputes to escalate into deadly cycles of reprisal.
