Shooting at New Kent emergency room prompts investigation

An investigation is underway after a shooting at the VCU Health Emergency Center at New Kent, authorities said Friday evening. Deputies from the New Kent County Sheriff’s Office responded to the facility after reports of a shooting, according to a release. The building is located off Pocahontas Trial in Quinton. There is no active threat to the public and no suspects are actively being sought, the sheriff’s office said. “The safety of our residents, medical staff and visitors remains our to priority,” the release states. “We are in close coordination with VCU Health officials to ensure the continued safety of the facility and surrounding area.” Investigators are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting, the sheriff’s office said. No other information has been released.
