The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the African Union Commission (AUC), and the African Women Leaders Network (AWLN), in collaboration with the Africa School of Governance, will convene a high-level Co-Creation Workshop in Kigali to design the Africa Leadership Academy for Women in Politics, a ground-breaking initiative to nurture and connect the next generation of women leaders across the continent. Despite progress, women still make up only 27% of legislators in sub-Saharan Africa. This Academy aims to change that narrative by providing women in politics and aspiring leaders with the skills, networks, and confidence to lead transformative change in their countries. The four-day workshop will bring together academics, political leaders, practitioners, and innovators from across Africa to co-design the Academy’s curriculum, learning models, and outreach strategies. Participants will explore how to cultivate political acumen, strengthen communication and coalition-building skills, and expand access to leadership pathways tailored to Africa’s diverse contexts. Key Highlights: • Launch of the co-creation process for the Africa Leadership Academy for Women in Politics • Strategic discussions on leadership, mentorship, and inclusive governance • Participation from the African Union Commission, AWLN chapters, academics, political actors, and civil society leaders • Media opportunity to engage with leading voices championing women’s leadership in Africa.
