Renowned singer and composer Shankar Mahadevan has added a stylish new ride to his garage. The music maestro recently purchased an MG M9 luxury vehicle priced at Rs 80.33 lakh, joining the list of celebrities who’ve indulged in the latest premium wheels. Although Mahadevan himself didn’t post about the purchase, videos shared by paparazzo Viral Bhayani captured the musician celebrating the moment with his family. In the clip, Shankar is seen posing proudly beside his new car before performing a traditional puja ceremony at his home. The model also comes equipped with a 13-speaker premium sound system, offers a range of 548 km, and can be fast-charged from 30 per cent to 80 per cent in just 30 minutes. Earlier this month, Mahadevan performed at the Bollywood Music Project held at Jio World Garden, Bandra, which is billed as Asia’s largest Bollywood music festival. The three-hour act featured his longtime collaborators Ehsaan Noorani and Loy Mendonsa, as well as his sons Siddharth and Shivam Mahadevan. The event also saw performances by Anu Malik, who brought back his popular ’90s hits, along with Baba Sehgal, Kunal Ganjawala, Avinash Gupta, and Shaarib–Toshi’s Abhijeet Sawant. The festival’s second day was headlined by the iconic duo Salim–Sulaiman Merchant, wrapping up a grand musical celebration. Shankar Mahadevan, born on March 3, 1967, is a celebrated Indian singer and composer best known as one-third of the acclaimed music trio Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy, who have composed for numerous iconic Indian films. Over the years, Mahadevan has become one of the most respected voices in contemporary Indian music. In recognition of his remarkable contribution to music, he was awarded an honorary doctorate (honoris causa) by Birmingham City University in 2023. Born in Chembur, Mumbai, into a Tamil family with roots in Palakkad, Kerala, Mahadevan showed an early inclination toward music. He began learning Hindustani classical and Carnatic music as a child and started playing the veena at the age of five under Shri Lalitha Venkataraman. He further trained under Pandit Shrinivas Khale and T.R. Balamani, both of whom played a significant role in shaping his musical foundation. Mahadevan completed his schooling at Our Lady of Perpetual Succour High School in Chembur. In 1988, he graduated with a degree in Computer Science and Software Engineering from the Ramrao Adik Institute of Technology in Navi Mumbai, which is affiliated with Mumbai University. Before turning his passion for music into a full-time career, he worked as a software engineer at Leading Edge Systems (now known as Trigyn Technologies Limited). On the personal front, he is married and has two sons, Siddharth Mahadevan and Shivam Mahadevan, who have both followed in his footsteps to become singers.
