Shah Rukh Khan, Anil Kapoor NEVER Made Anupam Kher Feel He Is 'Character Actor': Main To Dost Banta Tha - EXCLUSIVE

Anupam Kher has had a long and illustrious career spanning decades, working alongside some of the biggest names in Indian cinema. From Shah Rukh Khan to Anil Kapoor and several other leading stars, the veteran actor has shared screens in countless films that remain etched in Bollywood history. Despite being known as one of the most powerful “character actors” in the industry, Anupam revealed that he never once felt sidelined or looked down upon by the superstars he worked with in an exclusive chat with Zoom. In an exclusive conversation with us, Anupam candidly shared, “Maine set pe kabhi is baat ko maana hi nahin. So and so is hero and I am a character actor. And I must acknowledge that all the actors that I work with from Shahrukh (Khan) to Anil (Kapoor) to anybody, they have not given me this feeling ki because main toh dost banta tha na unka. In my persona was not that complex. In fact, sometimes I say that I had the superiority complex.” The seasoned actor explained that his bond with co-stars was built on friendship, respect, and camaraderie rather than hierarchy or professional insecurity. He maintained that he was never treated as “lesser” by the industry’s top heroes, something that allowed him to bring his best to every role. Anupam Kher opens up about mental health journey Opening up further about his personal journey, Anupam recalled an incident when a doctor once told him he needed therapy. He shared that a doctor once told him, ‘You need a therapist. You need a psychiatrist.’ Maine bada unka mazaak udaya. Maine kaha aap paagal ho gaye ho doctor sahab. Matlab mere jaisa positive aadmi mere jaisa kitaab likhne wala aadmi kaise main psychiatrist ki kyun zarurat hai mujhe?” But what initially began as disbelief eventually turned into an eye-opening experience. Anupam admitted that he later did visit a therapist and the session was a turning point. “Maine dekha ki woh apne pad pe kuch likhne lage. Toh maine unse poocha ki kya likh rahe hain? Kehta hai aapka medication. Aap disturbed hain. Aap manic depressive hain. And then I took a medication for two months and then after that I did not take medication.” Watch the video here: Check out the full conversation on Zoom's YouTube channel tomorrow (September 28).
