Serian District Council chairman: Eco runs ‘triple benefit’ for better health, unity, rural-urban ties

By DayakDaily Team KUCHING, Oct 27: Serian District Council (MDS) chairman Dato Peter Minos hails the Serian Eco Run as a powerful tool for fostering unity and promoting healthy living across Sarawak. Following the event at Kampung Daha Kisau in interior Tebedu, Serian, Minos encouraged the public to join similar country runs, calling them a simple yet effective way to strengthen Sarawak’s multi-racial community. “I saw all the races, young and old, participated, mixing and interacting very freely and excitedly with each other,” said Minos. The MDS chairman emphasised that activities like the eco run naturally bring people together, noting the remarkably diverse turnout and even attracting a few foreigners. He believed the interaction was a good sign for Sarawak’s multi-racial and multi-religious State. “So I told the participants to join in all the eco runs in Serian, as this will do good for your health and expand your social circle. You will meet new friends and improve the unity,” he said. He pointed out three key benefits stemming from such country runs: they contribute to better health for participants, they are effective at improving people’s unity and social circles, and they help in solidifying rural-urban interactions. Minos also highlighted the impressive convergence of over 500 people at the village, describing it as a “welcome sight indeed.” He gave praise to the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts (MTCP) for its support of marathons, eco runs, and “bratakthons,” (climbing competition held at Bung Bratak, which is a part of Bung Bratak Day event). He added that the Ministry’s involvement has been worthwhile and that every council should organise country runs for the betterment of society and general health. —DayakDaily
