SDA Church breaks ground for multipurpose women’s training centre   

By Solomon Gumah, GNA Wayamba (N/R), Oct. 20, GNA – The North Ghana Mission of the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church has cut the sod to begin the construction of a multipurpose women’s training centre at Wayamba in the Sagnarigu Municipality. The project, which formed part of activities marking the Church’s 75th Anniversary, is to serve as a hub for skills development, vocational training, health education, and family life empowerment for women and young girls across northern Ghana. Pastor George Kossi-Ekao Amouzou, President, North Ghana Mission of the SDA Church, speaking during the sod cutting ceremony to begin the project, said it was conceived as a lasting legacy to commemorate the Church’s 75 years of gospel and community service in northern Ghana. He said, “When you empower a woman, you uplift a household; when you strengthen women, you transform communities.” He added that, “This centre will become a place of hope, productivity, and transformation not only for Adventist women but for all women in the region and beyond.” He said the 75th Anniversary, celebrated under the theme: “75 Years of Mission: Advancing Faith – Transforming Communities”, was a time for reflection, gratitude, and renewed commitment to God’s mission. Pastor Amouzou expressed appreciation to the government for its decision to extend the Free Senior High School policy to private secondary schools saying the move demonstrated the government’s commitment to inclusive education. He reaffirmed the Church’s commitment to holistic development through its humanitarian arm- ADRA Ghana, which continued to support programmes in food security, climate-smart agriculture, health care, water and sanitation, and emergency response. Mr Ali Adolf John, Northern Regional Minister, whose speech was read on his behalf, commended the SDA Church for its contribution to the growth and development of northern Ghana through education, health, and spiritual guidance. He said the establishment of the Women’s Training Centre would complement government’s efforts at empowering women to become productive members of society He pledged the Northern Regional Coordinating Council’s full support for the project and assured the Church of government’s readiness to partner with faith-based organizations in driving the region’s development agenda. Mr Abdulai Imoro Gong, Sagnarigu Municipal Chief Executive, congratulated the SDA Church on its 75th Anniversary and lauded its longstanding partnership with the Assembly in promoting education, health, and social development. He highlighted the Church’s contribution to the development of the municipality including the establishment of basic and secondary schools, a branch of Valley View University, and the Tamale SDA Hospital. He added that “The Women’s Training Centre will indeed be another blessing from God with the SDA Church as the chosen vessel.” Gulkpe-Naa Alhassan Abdulai, Paramount Chief of Gulkpegu Traditional Area, who was represented at the ceremony, thanked the SDA Church for the initiative. He said, “The various health facilities, schools and other interventions by the SDA Church is a testament that this project will be completed to support the empowerment of women and girls in this area.” The North Ghana Mission of the SDA Church was established in 1950, and over the past 75 years it has grown into several congregations across the five regions in the northern with active engagements in education, health, agriculture, and community development.
