The General Education department has initiated steps to name Government Higher Secondary School, Paravur, in Alappuzha after former Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan. Earlier, former Minister G. Sudhakaran had written to General Education Minister V. Sivankutty, requesting that the school where Achuthanandan studied be named after him. Mr. Sudhakaran recently received a letter from Mr. Sivankutty informing him that the General Education department has begun procedures to rename the school after Achuthanandan. Meanwhile, the Director of General Education has been asked to submit a report on the proposal. Achuthanandan, who pursued his upper primary education at the school, later saw it being upgraded first to a high school and subsequently to a higher secondary school. Mr. Sudhakaran congratulated Mr. Sivankutty and the Education department for taking the initiative to rename the school in honour of the former Chief Minister.
