San Javier students join “Grita” campaign STUDENTS in San Javier joined a session of the “Grita” campaign, which aims to prevent youth suicide and help young people speak up about how they feel. The campaign, run by the Regional Health Department and the FFIS Foundation, focuses on teenagers aged 14 to 18. The campaign moves around Murcia to make sure teens know they are not alone and that it’s okay to ask for help. The mayor attended the session, stressing how important it is for young people to know about support services when they are struggling. Encouraging open conversations The session included a video by influencer Kalon Bay and a performance by the Metalte ballet, followed by an interactive discussion with mental health professionals. The activities were designed to show that help can come in many forms, whether through talking to a friend, reaching out to a teacher, or contacting a helpline. Students were reminded they can “shout it out” to someone they trust or contact the campaign’s support services through phone or chat. The message was simple but powerful: speaking up is the first step to feeling better. Support services across the Region of Murcia Outside the Teatro de Invierno, a mobile unit shared the same message and key numbers, including 024 for suicidal behaviour, 112 for emergencies, and 968 34 34 00 for the Teléfono de la Esperanza. These numbers are available 24 hours a day, offering confidential and immediate help to anyone in need. The “Grita” campaign continues to travel across the Region of Murcia, working with schools, local councils, and youth groups. Each session aims to reach more teenagers, encouraging them to look out for one another and to seek support early when facing emotional distress. Giving teens the tools to ask for help By promoting mental health education in schools, the initiative helps reduce stigma and gives young people the confidence to talk about their emotions openly. Teachers and counsellors also receive information on how to recognise warning signs and offer guidance when a student might need extra support. The campaign’s goal is to create a culture where young people feel heard, valued, and supported. “Grita” continues to remind everyone that no one should face their struggles alone, there is always someone ready to listen and help. The Benefits of Campaigns Like “Grita” Projects like “Grita” have a lasting impact beyond the classroom. They: Raise awareness of mental health issues among young people.
