Samsung has announced a new AI-powered extended reality headset with the Galaxy XR. It’s built on Android, Google, and Qualcomm technologies to deliver a powerful and immersive experience that is available today as an HMD, starting at $1,800 USD. It also begins a product line that Samsung promises will eventually include AI glasses. Samsung announced the Galaxy XR HMD in an official Galaxy Event this month, along with an accompanying press release. The Galaxy XR is built on an Android platform, utilizing a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chip. It also includes the latest version of Google’s Gemini AI assistant to aid in the numerous tasks, organization, and interactivity it provides. While the Galaxy XR HMD launched this week, it also opens the door for a line of products that Samsung, Qualcomm, and Google are excited to explore. “With Galaxy XR, Samsung is introducing a brand-new ecosystem of mobile devices,” Samsung Chief Operating Officer of Mobile eXperience Business Won-Joon Choi said in the press release. “Built on Android XR, Galaxy XR expands the vision for mobile AI into a new frontier of immersive and meaningful possibilities, allowing XR to move from concept to everyday reality, for both the industry and users.” The press release also promises that Galaxy XR is the first of what will be multiple products. Regardless, this HMD is available right now on Samsung’s website, and through partnered retailers, starting at $1,799.99. Stay tuned for more updates and news on the Samsung topic.
