District Collector C. Dinesh Kumar, on Tuesday (October 28, 2025), chaired a review meeting with the Health Department officials and assessed the key indicators including the maternal and infant mortality rates, along with the interventions to prevent death caused by rabies. The Collector also reviewed the treatment given to 84 patients at the government medical college hospital under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health insurance scheme. Adequate stock of Anti-Rabies Vaccines (ARV) is available in all government hospitals and the vaccines are administered round the clock at all primary health centres and taluk hospitals. Anti-rabies vaccine must be sought out at the earliest after a dog bite, lick or scratch. The site of contact on the skin must be immediately washed with soap under running water, the administration has stated to the public. Assessing the interventions for rabies bites and the preparedness of hospitals, the Collector also urged pet owners to get bi-annual vaccines similar to the annual ARV for their pets.
