Amol Muzumdar-coached India created history in Navi Mumbai by winning their maiden ICC title. The Harmanpreet Kaur and Co. defeated South Africa in the final of the 2025 Women's World Cup. It was India's third appearance in an ODI WC final and they did the job in the third attempt. Amol never played for India but he has achieved the dream of winning the World Cup as a coach. Following India's title win, Rohit Sharma's an 11-year-old post for Rohit went viral on X. In his post, Rohit paid tribute to Amol after he retired from domestic cricket. Amol made his domestic cricket debut in the 1993/94 season and continued to play till November 2013. "Amol Muzumdar the unsung hero of Mumbai cricket retires leaving behind a tremendous record!Always put his whole heart into his game #Respect," Rohit wrote on X in September 2014. Amol kicked off his domestic cricket on a dream note and slammed a double-century for his Ranji Trophy debut for Mumbai. The domestic cricket legend finished his career 11167 runs in 171 first-class matches. He hit 30 centuries and 60 half-centuries. He hit 3 centuries in 50-over cricket. Amol only played 14 T20s. He didn't play IPL but coached Rajasthan Royals in the T20 league. He has also coached the Netherlands cricket team. Amol took over the job of Team India's head coach in 2023. India had a forgettable run in the 2024 Women's T20 World Cup and crashed out of the league stage after only managing 2 wins from 4 matches. The Women in Blue bounced back strongly in the home WC. They won 3 matches in the league to make it to the semi-final. India defeated mighty Australia in the knockout game to qualify for the final. India defeated SA in the summit clash. Interestingly, India lost to both teams in the league stage.
