Remembrance Day is on November 11, 2025 and is observed to commemorate the sacrifices of those who have served in the line of duty. The day is marked by a two minute silence held across the country at the eleventh hour on the eleventh day of the eleventh month. Towns and cities up and down the country will host events and parades on Sunday, November 9 , 2025. Many also show their support by purchasing a poppy, which can be worn in the day and weeks running up to Remembrance Day. This year, Manchester City Council has announced there will be two services held in the city centre to mark both Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day on November 11. Here's our full list of the services taking place across the boroughs in 2025. Bolton ’s Concert of Remembrance will return as part of a wide programme of events to mark the sacrifices made by the Armed Forces. The event will take place on Thursday, November 6 from 7pm at the Albert Halls. This year’s concert will feature world-renowned organist and Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalist Jean Martyn, wartime vocalist Jo Lancaster, Paul Cohen Productions, and the Phoenix Knights of Harmony male voice choir. The second half of the evening will include a moving act of remembrance led by Reverend Lane, with performances by the Lancashire Artillery (V) Military Band and the Pipes and Drums of the 103rd Regiment. Concert tickets are £9 plus a booking fee and are available via the Albert Halls website or by calling the box office on 0161 876 1715. Later in the week, a Remembrance Sunday Service and march past will take place on November 9 in Victoria Square, beginning at 10:56am. The 216 Royal Artillery will be in attendance and providing live gunfire to mark the beginning and end of the two-minute silence at 11am. On Armistice Day, Tuesday November 11 at 11am, the Vicar of Bolton, the Reverend Hannah Lane, will lead a short service of prayer from the steps of the Town Hall. Maroons will be fired to mark the start and end of the two-minute silence. For the first time, Bury Council are holding a Festival of Remembrance and parades, and services and wreath-laying ceremonies will also be taking place across the borough to mark Remembrance Sunday. Events have been planned for Bury, Prestwich , Radcliffe, Ramsbottom, Tottington, Unsworth, Walshaw, and Whitefield, while Armistice Day includes a short ceremony in Gallipoli Garden, outside the Fusilier Museum. An evening of music and spoken word with performances from Bury Fire Choir, Bury Music Service, Bury Army Cadet Force Core of Drums and input from Bury Youth Service. This Sunday (November 9), there will be a procession of veterans, military personnel, and cadets - led by the Greater Manchester Police Band - who will lead a march at 10.30am from John Dalton Street to the Cenotaph in St Peter’s Square. Shortly after, at 10.45am, the Civic procession will set off from Mount Street, joined by the Scots Guards Association Pipe Band, as they also make their way to the Cenotaph. Past and present members of the Armed Forces will gather at St Peter’s Square , alongside civic dignitaries, service organisations, faith leaders, emergency services, and other uniformed groups to pay their respects. The firing of a maroon will signal the start of the two-minute silence at 11am. A second maroon will then be fired to conclude the silence. There will be a similar community-led Remembrance activities taking place across the city as well, including a 7th Battalion remembrance at Whitworth Park, a Church of Saviour service at Harpurhey's North City Library, and poppy seed sowing at Hulme High Street Library and Leisure Centre. Civic Remembrance Sunday services, held in conjunction with branches of the Royal British Legion, will take place across the borough as follows: Oldham The service will be held at the War Memorial, opposite the Old Town Hall, commencing at 10.50am. A procession will assemble at New Radcliffe Street at 10.20am and proceed to the War Memorial at 10.30am. All ex-service and civilian organisations are invited to accompany the Mayor. Crosses may be placed in the field of remembrance adjoining the War Memorial. Chadderton The service will take place at the War Memorial in the Chadderton Town Hall Gardens, Middleton Road, commencing at 10.55am. A procession will assemble at the rear of Chadderton Reform Club, Middleton Road, at 10.00am and proceed to the War Memorial at 10.30am. Crompton The service will be held at the War Memorial, commencing at 10.55am. A procession will assemble at the Royal British Legion Club, Newtown Street, Shaw, at 10.30am and proceed to the War Memorial at 10.40am. Failsworth The service will take place at the War Memorial on Oldham Road, commencing at 10.55am. The parade will assemble at Failsworth Pole at 10.10am and proceed to the War Memorial at 10.40am prompt. Lees The service will be held at the War Memorial, commencing at 10.30am. A procession will assemble in Thomas Street at 10.10am before proceeding to the War Memorial. Royton The service will take place at Royton Park, commencing at 10.55am. Uniformed services should assemble at the rear of the Boyes store, on the car park off Radcliffe Street, at 10.40am prompt. The march will set off at 10.50am to the memorial at Royton Park, followed by a march past Royton Town Hall. Parade leaves Rosemount Methodist Church, Bennett Street, at 9:45am and proceeds to the war memorial outside the George and Dragon, Bennett Street, for a short service of remembrance and wreath laying ceremony at 10am. Newton - St Mary’s Church . Service held in St Mary’s Church, Bower Street off Talbot Road at 10am. The parade will then travel to the Little Soldier at the junction of Cartwright Street and Victoria Street where a wreath laying ceremony will be held at 11:45am. Longdendale Broadbottom - Parade assembles at Broadbottom Community Centre, Lower Market Street, at 10:30am and proceeds to the war memorial via Market Street and Mottram Road. An act of remembrance will be held at the war memorial at 10.45am. Hollingworth - Remembrance service at St Mary’s Church, Market Street, at 10am. Followed by a walk along the pavement to the war memorial, Mottram Moor, for a wreath laying ceremony at 10:50am and rededication. Mottram - A service of remembrance will be held in Mottram Parish Church at 10.30pm. Mossley, Central - Service of remembrance and wreath laying ceremony to start at 10:45am at the war memorial in Mossley Park. Stalybridge, Central – Sunday 9 November – Parade will assemble in Armentieres Square at 10:15am and will proceed at 10:30am to Stalybridge War Memorial for a remembrance service and wreath laying ceremony at 10:55am. The service at the Cenotaph will be conducted, during which wreaths will be laid by the various organisations. The procession will then proceed into the Parish Church for the service. There will be no return procession to the Town Hall at the conclusion of the service, but the Mayor will take the salute from the saluting base as the Service Personnel parade by. Leigh: Due to ongoing works on Market Street and Civic Square, the parade will follow a different return route this year and Leigh Town Hall surface car park will be closed. The parade will assemble at Marsh Gymnasium, Ullswater Street, Leigh at 10:15am proceeding at 10:30am to the Cenotaph in Church Street Gardens via Railway Road, Market Street, Lord Street, Charles Street, Church Street, and Silk Street. The service at the Cenotaph will be conducted by the Clergy of Leigh, during which wreaths will be laid by the various organisations. here will be a return procession at the conclusion of the service, the route to be taken via Church Street, Vernon Street, Bradshawgate, Railway Road, and Bengal Street to the Town Hall surface car park. A salute will be taken on Railway Road and those assembled on the Town Hall surface car park will be thanked for their attendance. All other parades and services across the borough: Abram: The parade will assemble in Dootson Street (back of the community centre) at 9:45am then proceed at 10am along Warrington Road for the service at 10:30am in St John the Evangelist's Church. After the service, the parade will reassemble outside the church and proceed to Dootson Street for dispersal. Ashton in Makerfield: The procession will assemble at the Beeches (former Wigan Groundwork Trust), Wigan Road, Ashton at 09:45am for 10:00am, when a wreath will be laid at the Garswood Hall War Memorial. The procession will then reform and proceed to St Thomas’ Church for the Service at 10:50am via Wigan Road, Gerard Street, and Warrington Road. After the Service, wreaths will be laid at the Cenotaph. The procession will then reassemble at Violet Street and proceed via Warrington Road for the march past and salute, then continue to Bryn Street, turning onto Council Avenue for dispersal. Aspull: A service will be held at the War Memorial, Finger Post, commencing at 10:50am. A procession will leave the Sumner Street Headquarters of the British Legion at 10:45am (parade to muster at 10:30am) and proceed along Scot Lane for a service at the War Memorial. Atherton: 10:10am assemble at Atherton Collieries, Alder Street for departure at 10:20am prompt. Wreaths will be laid by members of the Council and various organisations. The parade will leave via Alder Street, turn left onto High Street, and turn right on to Tyldesley Road, stopping at the Baptist Church Memorial. Proceed on Tyldesley Road via Market Street and Leigh Road to the Cenotaph. The parade will reassemble on Leigh Road, circumnavigate the cenotaph, and return along Hamilton Street to the junction with Tyldesley Road, turn left onto Tyldesley Road, right at the bollards onto High Street, then right onto Alder Street to the Atherton Collieries. The parade will be dismissed at Atherton Collieries. Golborne: A service of remembrance will be held at Golborne War Memorial, Barn Lane, Golborne at 2:30pm. It will be preceded by a procession from the Legh Court car park, Legh Street, Golborne, assembling at 2:15pm prompt. The service will be conducted by the Clergy of Golborne, after which wreaths will be laid. Hindley: At 10:00am, the procession assembles in the Market Square/Council car park on Cross Street, Hindley. At 10:40am, the procession leaves the assembly point and proceeds along Morris Street to Wigan Road proceeding to the War Memorial on the corner of Atherton Road and Liverpool Road outside St Peter’s Church. A service is held at the Memorial, together with the wreath laying ceremony. The procession then proceeds along Atherton Road to George Street and to All Saints Church where a service will be held. Following the service in All Saints Church, the procession re-assembles on George Street/Chapel Green Road and continues along Chapel Green Road, turns left onto Bridge Street, continues along Market Street, turns right onto Cross Street, left onto Morris Street, and ends on the Town Hall car park for the national anthem and dispersal. Ince in Makerfield: There will be a memorial service and wreath laying ceremony at the Cenotaph in Ince Cemetery, Lower Ince at 10:30am followed by a service and wreath laying ceremony at 12 noon in the Garden of Remembrance, Smithy Green, Higher Ince. Please see local churches for details of other services. Lowton: A service of remembrance will be held at St Mary's Church, Newton Road, Lowton at 10:30am preceded by an assembly in the schoolyard at 10:20am. After the service, a representative of the Council and other organisations taking part will lay wreaths. Platt Bridge: The parade will assemble at 10:30am on Walthew Lane at its cul-de-sac end near Elm Street. The procession will proceed at 10:40am along Walthew Lane to its junction with the A58 Liverpool Road. The procession turns right onto Liverpool Road and proceeds to Stephen Street junction, then turns left onto Stephen Street and turns right onto Davies Street, then proceeds to its junction with Neville Street where the Cenotaph/War Memorial is situated for the laying of wreaths at 10:50am. Following the laying of wreaths, the procession turns left onto the A58 Liverpool Road and continues north to Church Road. The procession turns right onto Church Road and proceeds to St Nathaniel’s Church for the church service. After the service, the parade will reassemble and proceed back along the same route to the cul-de-sac end of Walthew Lane for dispersal. Shevington: Assemble outside AB Hardware (formerly Bewley's) in Broad O'th Lane, Shevington between 10:15am and 10:30am. The parade will proceed at 10:45am to Shevington War Memorial in the park at the corner of Church Lane. The ceremony commences at 10:55am and will be followed by a service at St Anne’s Church. Standish: The parade will assemble at Cross Street, Standish at 10:15am proceeding at 10:30am from Standish Unity Club along Market Place, Market Street, and High Street, to the War Memorial at the junction of High Street/Church Street. After the service, the parade will reform and return along Church Street to Market Place to be followed by an all denomination service at St Wilfrid’s Church, Standish. Tyldesley: The parade will assemble on the Market Square at 10:00am, proceeding at 10:10am to the Cenotaph at Tyldesley Cemetery via Elliott Street, Manchester Road, and Hough Lane. The service at the Cenotaph will be conducted by a member of the Clergy, during which wreaths will be laid by the various organisations. Following the service, there will be a return procession to the Market Square via Hough Lane, Manchester Road, and Elliott Street. As the parade passes the Town Hall, a salute will be taken by ward councillors and senior ex-servicemen.
