Hyderabad: Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma on Wedesnday urged educators to 'reimagine education the Indian way' - one that blends knowledge with wisdom, technology with values, and innovation with compassion. Speaking after inaugurating the 54th Annual Conference of the Council of Boards of School Education (COBSE) in Hyderabad, the Governor called for a renaissance in schooling rooted in India’s civilizational ethos yet responsive to global change. The three-day national conference, hosted by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) at its Centre of Excellence, has drawn nearly 100 delegates from more than 70 school boards across India and abroad, including representatives from Cambridge International and the International Baccalaureate (IB). Jishnu Dev Varma urged educators and policymakers to shape a value-driven education system that harmonises technology with timeless human principles. 'Viksit Bharat is not just about a rich Bharat—it is about a culturally enriched, value-driven Bharat that leads the world not only in economy or geopolitics, but in civilization. That is where the role of education truly begins,' he said. The Governor emphasised the need to decolonise and reorient education around India’s cultural foundations. 'Education sculpts the future because it sculpts our children. The school is not merely a place of learning - it is the cradle of our nation’s tomorrow,” he observed. Calling for a deeper moral vision, he added, 'Guidance must come from the Indian value system - my root should be there; otherwise, I’ll be homeless.' He reminded the gathering that 'education is not the dissemination of information, but the inculcation of human values-empathy, compassion, and the development of the last person in the line.' Reflecting on the unity of India’s diversity, the Governor noted, 'The oneness of Bharat lies in harmony'. While addressing the gathering, Dr. Yogita Rana, Secretary to the Government of Telangana, highlighted the importance of human leadership in educational reform. 'Education is not transformed by policy alone, but by people who believe in its promise and act upon it,' she said. 'When teachers, administrators, and policymakers work with empathy, courage, and collaboration, we shape a future where every child learns with joy, dignity, and purpose - empowering an enlightened generation,' she added. Dr. Rana underlined the need for balance between modernisation and moral grounding: 'The future of education will be defined by how courageously we embrace change - blending technology with values, and innovation with inclusivity.
