Dear Editor, When I first ran for public office, I promised my constituents that I would fight to make New Hampshire a safer place for every family. That commitment guided my work this year as I partnered with Governor Ayotte to pass bail reform. Now, as the law is officially in effect, I am proud to say that promise has been kept. The issue was clear: Our previous bail system was broken. Too often, individuals charged with violent crimes were released within hours, without ever facing a judge, only to reoffend or fail to show up in court. Granite Staters deserve better than a revolving door of criminals, and Governor Ayotte recognized that reality. Passing this reform was not easy. It required months of hard work, long hours of negotiation, and constant communication with law enforcement, prosecutors, and community leaders. But through it all, Governor Ayotte was a steadfast partner. She listened to concerns, pushed past political noise, and never wavered from the goal of making New Hampshire safer. Parents should know their kids can walk to school safely. Seniors should feel secure in their homes. Business owners should not have to worry about repeat offenders cycling through their doors. That sense of safety is part of what makes New Hampshire such a special place to live. New Hampshire is already the safest state in the country, but with leaders like Governor Ayotte, we are committed to keeping it that way, and making it even better. As a state representative, I am often asked what makes the “New Hampshire way” of governing different. The answer is simple: common sense, and a willingness to put our communities first. Bail reform reflects those values. I am grateful to Governor Ayotte for her leadership and partnership, and I am grateful to my colleagues who stood up to do what was right. This law sends a clear message: In New Hampshire, we will always put the safety of our citizens first. At a time when many people feel cynical about politics, this effort stands out as proof that leadership still delivers. As we move forward, I will continue to fight for policies that strengthen our communities. With Governor Ayotte leading the way, I am confident that New Hampshire’s best days are still ahead. REP.
