CSIR–Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (CSIR–IICT) Department of Energy and Environmental Engineering chief scientist and currently serving as Director of CSIR–National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (CSIR–NEERI) (Nagpur) S. Venkata Mohan has been awarded the ‘Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar – Vigyan Shri’ for the year 2025 by the Central government in recognition of his outstanding contributions to environmental science and bioengineering. Dr. Mohan is internationally recognized for his pioneering research in environmental biotechnology, focusing on metabolic modulation of microorganisms for applications in energy generation, waste valorization and environmental restoration. His innovations in biorefineries, wastewater treatment and CO₂ biosequestration have provided scalable models for sustainable environmental management, aligning with India’s national goals on climate resilience and clean energy transitions. He has previously been honoured with the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize, the INAE–SERB Abdul Kalam Technology Innovation National Fellowship, and the DBT–Tata Innovation Fellowship, said a press release.
