Rangers Ready to Back Danny Rohl in January

Andrew Cavenagh says Rangers will be prepared to spend in the January transfer window following Danny Rohl’s appointment as manager, as the club 'do not believe' they have a complete squad. The Ibrox side confirmed Rohl’s arrival on Monday after a lengthy search for Russell Martin’s successor, with top targets Steven Gerrard and Kevin Muscat both subject to unproductive talks. Cavenagh says Rangers chiefs will work out a plan for January with Rohl over the next two months, with the aim of adding more experience and 'steel' to a squad that has struggled to perform at the start of the season. Rangers sacked Martin after 17 games in charge on 5 October, with the club sitting eighth in the Premiership table and having won just one of their first seven games. Rangers Ready to Spend in January Cavenagh, speaking to Sky Sports, said Rangers will be prepared to spend more money in January if needed, following Rohl’s appointment: “We will sit with Danny over the next two months as we go through these series of matches and look at what the squad needs. “We do not believe the squad is complete today. We didn't believe it coming out of the summer window. “We probably need a little bit more experience, we need a little bit more steel. And we didn't expect to get everything we wanted in one window. “And so getting to the main question, yeah, if there's something that we need to do in the January window, we can put more money into the club.” Rangers welcomed 14 new signings during the summer transfer window, including forwards Youssef Chermiti, Oliver Antman and Bojan Miovski. The Ibrox side also secured loan deals for promising Premier League starlets Mikey Moore, Nasser Djiga and Jayden Meghoma, and currently have an average squad age of just 25.0. Only James Tavernier, Jack Butland and Joe Rothwell are over the age of 30, making Rangers the third-youngest squad in the Premiership this season. The Gers face Norwegian side Brann in the Europa League on Thursday for Rohl’s debut in charge, before hosting Kilmarnock in the league on Sunday.
