Raising Cane’s to celebrate Cumberland County opening with free food

Everyone knows how much central Pa. loves a restaurant opening. On Tuesday, fans of Raising Cane’s surely will be lined up for the grand opening at 5435 Carlisle Pike in Hampden Township. The chicken finger chain is opening an outpost at the Beltway Towne Centre near BJ’s Wholesale Club. A ribbon cutting will be held at 8:30 a.m. To celebrate, Raising Cane’s is holding a “Lucky 20” drawing to award 20 customers, age 13 and older, “Free Cane’s for a Year.” Entries will be accepted between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. and you must be present to win. Because it’s Veterans Day, the restaurant will present a swag bag to the first 200 veterans with valid identification. The first 100 people to purchase a Box Combo will receive a commemorative beanie and a free Box Combo Card, valid on a future visit. The restaurant is the second Raising Cane’s in the Harrisburg area, joining one that opened earlier this year at 5040 Jonestown Road in Lower Paxton Township. The chain was founded in 1996 by Todd Graves in Baton Rouge and specializes in fresh fried chicken, crinkle-cut fries, coleslaw and Texas toast, as well as a tangy yet spicy secret dipping sauce. Graves created the business plan, earning the lowest grade in his class and doubt from his professor, who said a restaurant serving only chicken fingers would never succeed. Today, it operates more than 750 restaurants in 35 states, as well as in the Middle East and Guam. California-based Pacifica Companies developed the Beltway Towne Centre at the former Park Inn by Radisson Harrisburg West location. Other retailers, including Shake Shack, Honeygrow, CAVA and Stretch Zone, are slated to open there.
