Prue Leith says 'it's terrible' as she talks major lifestyle change with husband

The Great British Bake Off judge Prue Leith "hated" a lifestyle change she and her husband, John Playfair, recently embarked upon. The 85-year-old cookery expert disclosed that she and John started using Mounjaro - also known as Tirzepatide - a medication approved to treat Type 2 diabetes that has gained popularity for weight loss purposes. Providing an update on their journey, Prue confessed that while she's observed changes in her husband's physique, she couldn't claim the same success for herself. "I took it for two months, lost my appetite completely and didn't shed an ounce - nothing," she told The Times . "Every day I got on the scales and I still weighed exactly the same as before. I hated the b****y thing and I was tired all the time, presumably because I wasn't eating." Despite experiencing no results personally, she revealed her husband remained convinced she appeared slimmer. "John said I looked thinner, which I think means old and scraggy round the face," she joked. Despite praise from her spouse, Prue chose to discontinue with the "expensive" injection, stating: "It was terrible for me." John, however, has shed an impressive two stone while using Mounjaro. Yet the transformation has produced one consequence that Prue finds rather disappointing. "He hardly drinks now, and I'm a great boozer," she said. "I have two or three glasses of wine every night, and he'll only have half a glass - which he probably won't finish. It's a pity." Prue and John have been married for nine years after meeting through mutual acquaintances. She remembered how John appeared at her front door the following morning, and their romance subsequently flourished. Viewers recently gained insight into their marriage through their collaboration on Prue Leith's Cotswold Kitchen. Looking back on their filming experience, Prue acknowledged that John initially struggled to understand television production. "When we did the first show together, John was not listening to what the director said," she recalled on Lorraine. "So I said to him, 'John, you see that girl? She's the director. The clue is in the name - she directs, and you do what you're told!' He doesn't take direction." The Great British Bake Off judge said she has since come to accept his instinctive spontaneity. "I've given up on it - he does what he does. And you know what? It works," she added. In the show, John adopts a practical approach where he demonstrates his knowledge of rural living and provides guidance on gathering fruits and vegetables. He also encounters local craftspeople, producers, and meat suppliers, highlighting the narratives behind the produce featured in the programme. The Great British Bake Off airs tonight at 8pm on Channel 4.
