The Great British Bake Off judge Prue Leith has opened up about a lifestyle change she and her husband, John Playfair, recently made. The 85-year-old culinary star revealed that she and John began taking Mounjaro - also known as Tirzepatide - a medication approved to treat Type 2 diabetes that has become widely used for weight loss. Sharing an update on their progress, Prue admitted that while she’s noticed a difference in her husband’s appearance, the same couldn’t be said for her own results. "I took it for two months, lost my appetite completely and didn’t shed an ounce - nothing," she told The Times. "Every day I got on the scales and I still weighed exactly the same as before. I hated the b****y thing and I was tired all the time, presumably because I wasn’t eating." Despite not seeing a result herself, she said her husband was convinced she looked slimmer. "John said I looked thinner, which I think means old and scraggy round the face," she joked. When the time was right, Prue decided to stop taking what she described as the "expensive" jab, adding: "It was terrible for me." John, on the other hand, has had a very different experience - losing two stone while using Mounjaro. But, the change has had one side effect that Prue isn’t entirely happy about. "He hardly drinks now, and I’m a great boozer," she said. "I have two or three glasses of wine every night, and he’ll only have half a glass - which he probably won’t finish. It’s a pity." Prue and John have been married for nine years after meeting through mutual friends. The day after they enjoyed a dinner together, she recalled John turning up on her doorstep to see her again and romance then blossomed. Fans recently got a glimpse into their marriage through their work together on Prue Leith’s Cotswold Kitchen. Reflecting on their experience filming the show, Prue admitted that John didn’t quite grasp the concept of television production at first. "When we did the first show together, John was not listening to what the director said," she recalled on Lorraine. "So I said to him, ‘John, you see that girl? She’s the director. The clue is in the name - she directs, and you do what you’re told!' He doesn’t take direction." The Great British Bake Off judge added that she has since learned to embrace his natural spontaneity. "I’ve given up on it - he does what he does. And you know what? It works," she added. In Prue Leith’s Cotswold Kitchen, John takes on a hands-on role in which he shares his expertise in country life and offering tips on harvesting fruit and vegetables. He also meets local artisans, farmers, and butchers, showcasing the stories behind the ingredients featured on the show. The Great British Bake Off airs tonight at 8pm on Channel 4.
