Around 50 protesters gathered at the steps of Stormont this morning to call on Education Minister Paul Givan to resign following his visit to Israel last week. The Minister was in Israel as part of a unionist delegation on a 'fact-finding' mission organised and paid for by the Israeli government. The protest came as Gerry Carroll submitted a motion of no confidence in the Education Minister over his use of departmental resources during the trip. While Mr Givan was in Israel on what is believed to have been a party-political basis, he requested that the Department of Education issue a press release on his visit to a school in the occupied territories in East Jerusalem. This has raised questions around whether he was on Ministerial business without the accompaniment of a departmental civil servant, which would be in contravention of the Functions of Government Act.
