Key Points Prince Harry apologized to Canada for wearing a Dodgers hat during the World Series. He explained the hat choice was due to politeness and “duress,” not disloyalty. Harry confirmed he’s a Blue Jays fan and has no plans for U.S. citizenship. Prince Harry issued an apology to Canada after he faced criticism for wearing a Los Angeles Dodgers hat to the World Series, which the California-based team ultimately beat the Toronto Blue Jays during. Harry, 41, previously sparked backlash after wearing a Dodgers hat when he and his wife, Meghan Markle, attended Game 4 of the World Series at Dodger Stadium on October 28. Following the event, many people expressed that they believed Harry should have supported a team from a Commonwealth country instead of his current home in California. While in Toronto for Remembrance Day events, Harry took a moment on Thursday, November 6, to laugh off the friendly controversy and insist that he has nothing but love for Canada. “Is there anything you would like to say about wearing that L.A. Dodgers hat last week and getting into hot water?” one interview asked Harry when he spoke to CTV News. Harry responded, “Oh, the L.A. Dodgers hat — hatgate. Well, firstly, I would like to apologize to Canada for wearing it.” “Secondly, I was under duress,” he continued as he reflected on his experience of watching Game 4. “There wasn’t much choice. I was invited to the L.A. Dodgers box or the dugout by the owner himself. So, I was doing what I thought was the polite thing to do.“ The Dodgers lost Game 4, though they went on to win Game 7 against the Blue Jays and ultimately became the 2025 World Series champions. During the recent interview, Harry made it clear that he supports the Blue Jays by putting on the team’s hat. Harry went on to offer another explanation for why he wore the Dodgers hat during the game. “When you’re missing a lot of hair on top and you’re sitting under flood lights, you’ll take any hat that’s available,” he said. While he was caught wearing a Dodgers hat during Game 4, Harry insisted he was a “Blue Jays throughout.” Harry wrapped up the conversation by saying it was going to be “really hard” to return to Los Angeles after he publicly revealed he’s a Blue Jays fans. He then issued one final apology for the mistake. “I’m very sorry to the Canadian public. I’m devastated that the Blue Jays lost, but go Jays,” he said. Markle, 44, and Harry moved to California in 2020 after they stepped down from their royal duties. While they have been living in the American state for five years, Harry recently revealed whether or not he plans to become an American citizen. While appearing on the “Hasan Minhaj Doesn’t Know” podcast, the host asked during a rapid fire Q&A, “Are you going to become a U.S. citizen?” “Am I going to become a U.S. citizen?” Harry repeated the question before he shared his response. “There are no plans to be, at this point.”
