TROY, Mich. – A popular pain treatment center in Troy has suddenly closed its doors, leaving clients who prepaid for multiple sessions frustrated and uncertain about refunds and future care. Clients of Pain Free Life Centers on Rochester Road arrived for scheduled appointments in recent weeks only to find the clinic shuttered. Many say phone lines are dead, and staff members have not returned calls. “I went to the appointment, and the place was shuttered,” said Ron Lusn, a client. “I’ve left several messages with them, and they don’t answer.” Visitors reported locked doors, newspaper covering the windows, and signage removed from the walls. Some clients say they saw boxes packed in hallways through a side door and lockboxes on the main entrance. A paper posted on the front door read in part: “Due to the recent trauma and the severity of injuries to our center director, we are forced to close our office temporarily. We are sorry for the inconvenience this may cause.” Clients have left notes on the door asking for refunds and information about the sudden closure. Pain Free Life Centers offered noninvasive treatments, including laser therapy sessions, and had served the community for more than a decade. Several clients told Local 4 they had prepaid thousands of dollars for multiple sessions and are now unsure how to recover that money. “At least tell us what’s going on,” said Sandra Gallagher, another affected client. “It’s going to be very hard to trust anyone to make a contract again like this and pay out this kind of money and pay for a service that you haven’t had yet.” Late Thursday (Nov. 6) afternoon, Local 4 received a call from Jeff Morton, the center’s Director. Morton said Pain Free Life Centers “went out of business” after he was involved in a motorcycle accident. “Due to the seriousness of my injuries, we cannot operate the business anymore,” Morton said. “We are looking to work on a deal to reopen it. But right now, there’s nothing concrete, and we apologize to the patients. We served the community for over 14 years.” Morton added that he expects to be out of work and recuperating for at least a year. Longtime client Sanda Gallagher said," I’m searching now for another company. And I’m going to tell you, it’s going to be very hard to trust anyone to make a contract again like this and pay out this kind of money and pay for a service that you haven’t had yet. And you have to have the faith that it’s going to be fulfilled." Some clients told Local 4 they plan to contact their banks to dispute credit card charges. Others said they will contact law enforcement or consider other legal options. Many are also searching for alternative providers to continue their pain management care. What to do if you’re affected If you are a client of the clinic and prepaid for services, consider these steps:
