The Akwa Ibom State Police Command, on Thursday, presented cheques totalling ₦22.09 million to families and next of kin of 63 deceased police officers who died in active service. The cheques, presented by the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, were issued under the Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare Schemes of the Nigeria Police Force. Speaking during the presentation at the Police Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo, CP Azare condoled with the bereaved families and commended the late officers for their sacrifices in protecting lives and property. He assured the beneficiaries that the Force, under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, remains steadfast in its commitment to the welfare of both serving and retired officers as well as the families of those who died in the line of duty. “The Nigeria Police Force will continue to stand by the families of our fallen heroes. This gesture is part of our ongoing efforts to honour their service and ensure their loved ones are not forgotten,” Azare said. Expressing their gratitude, some of the beneficiaries described the gesture as timely and reassuring, pledging to use the money judiciously in memory of their late loved ones. The presentation underscores the Police Force’s renewed drive to uphold the welfare of its personnel and sustain public trust in its service to the nation.
