Tripoli based Libyan Prime Minister, Abd Alhamid Aldabaiba, inaugurated several vital new projects within the Misrata Free Zone (MFZ) yesterday, in the presence of several ministers and officials, members of MFZ’s board of directors, and several business leaders and stakeholders in the transport and trade sectors. The projects inaugurated included: The smart gates for the zone and port. The new customs building The revenue building The marine construction and maintenance department Grain silos The vessel traffic control tower These projects are part of a comprehensive plan to develop the infrastructure and enhance the efficiency of logistical services at the port and the free zone. A qualitative leap in maritime and commercial servicesIn his speech, Aldabaiba emphasized that these projects represent a qualitative leap in maritime and commercial services, contributing to increased efficiency, faster trade, and streamlined customs clearance procedures. He praised the achievements of the city of Misrata, made possible by the efforts of its people and institutions. Imminent signing of major international partnership to develop MFZThe Prime Minister also announced the imminent signing of a major international partnership to develop the Misrata Free Zone and port. This partnership aims to transform Misrata into one of the leading commercial ports in North Africa and the Mediterranean by attracting international investments in the transport, logistics, energy, and maritime industries. Imminent launch of land route project linking Misrata to heart of AfricaHe also noted that this step will be accompanied by the launch of the land route project linking Misrata to the heart of the African continent, thus strengthening the city’s position as a strategic trade hub connecting Libya to its African hinterland and making it a major centre for maritime and land transport in the region. MFZ recognised internationally for its high development rateThe Prime Minister expressed his pride in the achievement of the Port of Misrata, which was ranked among the top twenty ports globally in terms of improvement rates, according to the World Bank’s 2025 report. Its performance jumped by 67.9 points in just one year, placing it first in North Africa in terms of development and growth rate, despite the challenges facing regional ports. Tripoli government to continue supporting development projects in various citiesAldabaiba concluded his remarks by commending the workers, engineers, and technicians at the MFZ, praising their efforts that have made the city a national model of work and achievement. He affirmed his government’s continued support for development projects and their expansion to include various Libyan cities.
