Newcastle United are closely monitoring Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson ahead of a potential blockbuster £120m move to re-sign him next summer, according to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg. The Magpies helped to develop Anderson as a young player as he came through their academy, before PIF were forced to sell the talented midfielder to a Premier League rival two summers ago in order to deal with PSR issues. Since his move, Anderson has become a key player at the City Ground and has become a regular in the England side under Thomas Tuchel, which has sparked interest from some of the top clubs in the world, including his former side. Newcastle Eyeing £120m Anderson Move Anderson, who has been described as 'phenomenal', was sold for just £35m to Forest two summers ago, but his development has been so great that it's now believed the club value him at between £100-120m if they were to sell. Newcastle know the player very well, obviously, and have registered their interest in potentially re-signing him, with Eddie Howe admitting that he would love to have the 22-year-old back at St James' Park. It's understood that there is no release clause in his Forest contract either. Speaking earlier this month, Howe said: “I don’t know [if he will come back] but certainly from my perspective I would love him to. “I’m very respectful of the fact he is at another football club and I would never normally talk about a player in that way, so, I won’t change that stance but… yeah… it is very regretful. A player from the academy who had given so much, and the club had given so much to, all those years here and how people tried to develop those talents, for him not to be utilised here is a real shame. “It [his sale] didn’t sit right with me then, doesn’t sit right with me today that we, as a football club, were forced to make a decision that we didn’t want to make. Another decision that Newcastle were forced to make this summer was the sale of Alexander Isak, and while PIF tried to stamp their authority on the situation by refusing to sell, they ultimately agreed a British record transfer fee to allow the stropping Swede to head to Liverpool. The Anderson situation was a bit more out of their control, but PIF came in as the richest owners in football and many fans began to doubt if they would really be able to become one of the elites despite their millions. Re-signing him, especially for such a steep price, would show fans that the owners are indeed serious about building a top squad that can compete at the highest level, while also bringing back a connection from the academy to the first team, albeit via Nottingham.
