Pete Davidson reveals the one person who could bring him back to ‘Saturday Night Live’

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Pete Davidson says there’s only one person who could convince him to make a full-time return to “Saturday Night Live”: Lorne Michaels. The Staten Island native said he’d “do anything for Lorne” in a recent interview with “People,” crediting the show’s longtime creator and executive producer for launching his career. “I owe that guy my life. He jump-started everything,” Davidson said. “I had a great time hosting last time, and anytime you get that call, it’s an honor and a privilege. It’s always relevant, it’s a hot show. People look forward to it, and the cast is great.” Davidson joined “SNL” in 2014 at just 20 years old, making him one of the youngest cast members in the show’s history. He stuck around for eight seasons before leaving in 2022, later returning to host in October 2023 and making an appearance at SNL’s 50th anniversary celebration earlier this year. Just last week, Davidson popped back into “SNL” for a surprise “Weekend Update” appearance alongside fellow Staten Island native Colin Jost, where the two joked about the retired Staten Island Ferry they bought for $280,000 in hopes of turning it into a floating entertainment venue. Davidson joked about renaming the ferry to a more positive name, the “Titanic 2,″ and even took a few playful jabs at his hometown, with Davidson promoting the boat as a floating home for Staten Islanders who promised to flee the city should Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani win the election. As “SNL” continues its 51st season, the show has already seen a mix of new and returning faces. Recent hosts have included Amy Poehler, Sabrina Carpenter, Miles Teller and Nikki Glaser. Jost remains behind the “Weekend Update” desk with Michael Che, joined by longtime cast members Kenan Thompson, Chloe Fineman, Bowen Yang and Mikey Day. The season also introduced five new featured players. How to watch “Saturday Night Live” airs Saturdays at 11:30 p.m. on NBC.
