For many dogs, seeing an intruder would automatically cause their protective instincts to kick in—but not Macy the golden retriever, who was caught greeting an intruder like her best friend. Dog owner Baylee, 27, shared a hilarious video on her dog’s TikTok account (@goldenmacy) showing how her 6-year-old pup responded to someone new entering the home. Needless to say, it’s exactly what you’d expect from a golden retriever. Baylee, of Tampa, Florida, couldn’t cope with her dog’s reaction when she saw the pet cam footage, telling Newsweek that she “wasn’t surprised” to see how friendly Macy was. It was a planned maintenance visit that Baylee wasn’t able to be present for. Instead, the engineer was greeted by a four-legged welcome party as Macy followed him around and gave him her toys to play. “I normally schedule these appointments on days that I will be home or days that my parents can watch her at their home,” Baylee said. “But I was happy to see how well she handled it when I saw the Furbo videos. She continued: “Macy has never met a stranger, and she loves bringing any visitors a toy so that they will play with her. I thought it was sweet that he stopped to throw her toy for a bit before leaving.” The footage showing how Macy greeted "an intruder" in her home has gone viral since it was shared on TikTok, generating more than 270,100 views and over 61,800 likes at the time of writing. The caption alongside the video jokes that this visit provides a “yearly reminder that Macy would NOT protect the house.” While Baylee should probably consider relying on alternative security options, Macy’s antics has certainly provided plenty of entertainment. She tells Newsweek that she feels incredibly lucky to have such a friendly and outgoing dog. “She’s a typical golden retriever in that she loves being around people. She’s always been happy to meet them and is always extra sweet and gentle when meeting kids. Whenever people ask if they can pet her, my usual response is that she’d be sad if they didn’t,” Baylee said. The online response to the video has been overwhelmingly positive. Internet users can’t get enough of Macy’s apparent lack of caution when meeting strangers (even when they come into her home). Many people took to the comments to share what their own dog would do in this situation. Baylee has loved hearing about how various breeds would or would not protect their homes. Among the responses on TikTok, one comment reads: “As a golden owner, this is real.” Another TikTok user wrote: “At the end, she’s like but where are you going?” While another person replied: “a stranger is just a friend you never met.”
