People on PIP who face change in eligibility set to be handed 'bonus' from DWP

People on Personal Independence Payment who could be caught up in the Department for Work and Pensions ( DWP ) cuts and welfare reforms are set to be handed a bonus payment in December. The £10 Christmas bonus from the DWP will be paid automatically to people claiming certain benefits - including PIP - during the first week of December. The payment has been in place since the 1970s and has remained at the same rate for decades. The bonus for people on PIP comes during a particularly worrying time for disabled people, with claimants in receipt of the incapacity benefit potentially facing a huge shake-up to eligibility next year. The payment will arrive during the first full week of December. This year that means between December 1 and December 7. Anyone who believes they should receive the payment but does not see it in their account is advised to contact their local Jobcentre Plus or pension centre. The money is paid automatically - so you won’t need to apply for it. It should show as "DWP XB" on your bank statement. The money is tax-free, and does not affect any of your other benefits. It isn't just people claiming PIP that will receive the Christmas bonus, either.
