SDSM leader Venko Filipce presented on Thursday’s his party’s red lines regarding the country’s EU path. In that regard, he called for the resolution to be accepted by consensus for other political actors in the country to file proposals. The resolution includes a proposal for the final vote on the constitutional changes to be completed not later than 10 February 2026. In the text, it is pointed out that bilateral disputes related to good-neighbourliness agreements that are not part of the EU acquis and Copenhagen criteria must not be a condition to open chapters and clusters during accession negotiations. According to the resolution, after the constitutional changes’ adoption, the Government should notify the EC that the obligation has been completed and request that an IGC be held where Cluster 1, on Fundamentals, will be opened not later than 15 February 2026. However, VMRO-DPMNE leader and PM Hristijan Mickoski stated that after the elections, his party would propose in Parliament a “Macedonian resolution” aiming to protect national interest and correct, according to VMRO-DPMNE, inaccuracies in SDSM’s proposal. In that regard, Mickoski added that SDSM’s resolution’s preamble contained inaccurate historical data, including in relation to claims about the Macedonian language and start of EU talks. “The debate on the resolutions will be opened after the elections, when VMRO-DPMNE will submit its document”, he stressed.
