Penguins believe Sidney Crosby suspension fate is sealed following Flyers OT brawl

The Pittsburgh Penguins believe Sidney Crosby will not face more punishment after Tuesday’s brawl against the Philadelphia Flyers. The Flyers won the game 3-2 in a shootout. The game ended with several fights after overtime, and both teams were frustrated with the officiating.Crosby and seven other players from both teams were given misconduct penalties at the end of overtime. Because of that, Crosby was not allowed to take part in the shootout, leading to the Flyers' victory. According to a report from The Athletic's Josh Yohe, a team source said that it was "punishment enough" and that no further action is expected from the league. The brawl started when Tyson Foerster slashed Parker Wotherspoon after the final whistle in overtime. Trevor Zegras then pulled Noel Acciari’s helmet off and threw punches while Acciari was on the ice. Wotherspoon was held down by a linesman, and several players were involved in the brawl. In the moment Crosby left the bench and tried to stand up for his teammates, and thus ended up receiving the misconduct.Penguins coach Dan Muse did not want to comment on the referee’s decisions."I'll just leave that between me and the ref," Muse said, postgame to the media. "So, I wasn't— um, yeah, I'm going to stay— keep quiet on that one."Muse did not get much insight on Crosby's penalty, but admitted the Penguins made a mistake on an earlier overtime goal by Evgeni Malkin that was overturned for an early substitution."Yeah, we (Malkin, who was serving a penalty) left too early." Muse said.Penguins coach's view on second period play against FlyersPittsburgh struggled for most of the game, and they were outplayed in the second period, having trouble moving the puck. Muse said the team needed to be more consistent and play faster."In the second period, we just kind of got too stretched out," Muse said. "So now when we do get the puck, you know, we're not really in good positions there to continue to move up ice. And, when that’s happening, now you're defending more, and it can be an ugly cycle,"Crosby scored his eighth goal of the season in the third period to tie the game. Goalie Artūrs Silovs kept the Penguins in it with 32 saves. The Flyers won in the shootout after Bobby Brink scored the game-winner.The Penguins were unhappy with how the game ended, but believe the issue with Crosby is over. The team will move on and play the Minnesota Wild on Thursday.
