Perumpadappu grama panchayat, a two-time national awardee for the best local body, has achieved another milestone by becoming the first local body to install surveillance cameras in government primary schools. The panchayat inaugurated the installation of nine surveillance cameras at Government Fisheries UP School, Palapetty, near Ponnani, on Tuesday. The panchayat had secured special approval for installing surveillance cameras in schools many months ago. But its implementation was delayed due to Keltron’s hold-up. The panchayat also launched The Hindu in School distribution programme. Panchayat president Bineesha Mustafa inaugurated the function. Health and education standing committee chairperson P. Nishadath presided. School headmistress Shobhana Devan welcomed the gathering. Councillor M. Panchayat Secretary Sajo Jacob, development standing committee chairperson Sauda Abdullah and The Hindu circulation manager K. Selvaraj spoke. School staff secretary K.K. Aneesh proposed a vote of thanks.
