The Pakistan-China Friendship Group held its inaugural meeting at Parliament House, chaired by Senator Sherry Rehman, highlighting the enduring and strategic friendship between the two nations. Senator Rehman praised China’s contribution to Pakistan’s economic and social development through the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and called for expanded cooperation in trade, agriculture, education, and climate resilience. She emphasised that collaborative efforts in agriculture could transform Pakistan’s rural economy and support sustainable growth. Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong reaffirmed China’s unwavering support for Pakistan’s sovereignty and development, announcing a series of new initiatives. These include the construction of 100 hospitals in Balochistan, the establishment of industrial and development zones to generate local employment, and agricultural projects designed to enhance productivity and rural livelihoods. The ambassador also highlighted plans for student exchange programs and technical training to strengthen educational ties between the two countries. Ambassador Jiang expressed appreciation for the participation of senators from across Pakistan, emphasising that the strategic partnership between China and Pakistan will continue to grow. He referenced China’s 15th Five-Year Plan, noting its potential to support joint efforts in economic transformation and climate change mitigation. Highlighting agriculture as central to poverty alleviation, he stated that empowering farmers is key to lifting communities from poverty and fostering industrial growth. Responding to questions from senators representing diverse provinces, Ambassador Jiang reiterated that China’s support for Pakistan remains steadfast under all circumstances. Senator Sherry Rehman concluded the session by thanking the Chinese delegation, describing the meeting as a step toward a renewed vision and deeper understanding between the two nations. The meeting was attended by Senators Naseema Ehsan, Samina Mumtaz Zehri, Ashraf Ali Jatoi, Faisal Saleem Rahman, Munzoor Ahmed, Bushra Anjum Butt, Palwasha Mohammad Zai Khan, Dr Afnan Ullah Khan, Dilawar Khan, Abdul Qadir, Waqar Mehdi, and other parliamentarians.
