Pacific Limited rehabilitates over 9,000 boreholes across Malawi

Pacific Limited has announced the successful rehabilitation of more than 9,000 non-functional boreholes across Malawi as part of its ongoing efforts to provide safe and potable water to communities nationwide. In an interview with Capital FM, Faizal Aboo, Managing Director of Pacific Limited, expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far, noting that the company aims to reach 10,000 rehabilitated boreholes by the end of this year. According to Aboo, the initiative has gone beyond improving access to clean water — it has also enhanced community productivity. “With this project, we have seen a lot of time saved that was previously spent traveling long distances in search of water. People now have more time to focus on businesses and other productive activities,” said Aboo. He added that Pacific Limited plans to expand the program to new constituencies and collaborate closely with newly elected legislators. “Our program will cover all new constituencies to ensure equitable access to clean water. We’re eager to work with the new Parliament and will conduct sensitization sessions to familiarize them with our project, its benefits, and their role in ensuring its success,” he explained. Aboo also urged communities to take responsibility for safeguarding the rehabilitated boreholes to prevent theft and vandalism. Pacific Limited launched its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative in 2015, following an identification of the challenges people face in accessing potable water. At the time, the company discovered that Malawi had about 20,000 non-functional boreholes. The project is expected to be completed by 2028. About The Author
