The Guyana Police Force (GPF) Academy on Thursday hosted a graduation ceremony for recruits who successfully completed Recruit Courses 395, 396, 397, and 398. Attendees at the event included Deputy Commissioner ‘Administration’ Mr. Ravindradat Budhram, Woman Senior Superintendent Dr. Nicola Kendall, Senior Superintendent John Barker and Woman Senior Superintendent Ms. Leslyn Halley-Smith, amongst other senior and junior officers. “The graduation of Courses 395, 396, 397, and 398 is a proud milestone for the Guyana Police Force, symbolising the continued investment in training officers who will serve with discipline, fairness, and integrity,” the GPF said in a statement. Over six months, recruits underwent intensive academic and practical training. The programme blended theory with hands-on practice, covering areas such as human rights, constitutional law, police powers, trafficking in persons, traffic offences, human smuggling, firearm drills, patrol duties, and theatre training. Recruits also gained first-hand experience through station and mortuary visits, duties at the Caribbean Premier League, and participation in academy activities such as the road march, church service, and athletic meet. Deputy Commissioner Budhram delivered the feature address, urging graduates to embody resilience and professionalism. “Every challenge is an opportunity to grow and learn. Remember, it’s not about being perfect; it’s about being committed to serving and protecting our community with integrity and compassion,” he noted. He recognised branch commanders and academy staff for their roles in the training journey. Addressing the recruits, he spoke on the values of faith, family, discipline, and education, while highlighting the importance of community involvement, justice, and fairness in policing. He reminded them to remain mentally and physically strong, to avoid taking sides in cases and always uphold evidence and truth, and that that policing is not just enforcing laws but building trust and inspiring communities. He also noted that opportunities for advancement are tied to performance, discipline, and education as he encouraged officers to pursue degrees and engage in sports.
