Opposition waging ‘vicious campaign’ in the name of women safety: DMK

DMK organising secretary R.S. Bharathi on Saturday (November 8, 2025) said AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami and leaders of other Opposition parties were waging a vicious campaign against the DMK government in the name of women safety. In a social media post, Mr. Palaniswami had referred to the reported abductions of a woman in Coimbatore and a girl child in Kannagi Nagar, Chennai, and contended that after having “created a tense environment” for women, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and his son and Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin should feel ashamed of themselves to call their government “a regime for women.” In a statement, Mr. Bharathi said Mr. Palaniswami and some other Opposition parties are “waging a vicious campaign every day,” hoping that the news that women are not safe in Tamil Nadu would somehow reach the ears of the people. The Coimbatore incident has illustrated the half-heartedness of the Opposition parties, who act with little intelligence to seek political gain from a crime as soon as it is committed, he said. “The Coimbatore police carried out an immediate and thorough inquiry and established that it was a case of a family dispute. The woman herself released a video confirming, “No one abducted me.” Similarly, the Kannagi Nagar schoolgirl who had gone missing was rescued by a special police team and safely reunited with her family by 6.30 a.m., the very next morning,” Mr. Bharathi said. Despite these facts, Palaniswami should be ashamed for spreading misinformation, he said. “Leaders like Anbumani Ramadoss and Nainar Nagendran have also chosen to politicise women’s safety without verifying facts, revealing their pettiness and political opportunism,” Mr. Bharathi said. “The masks of these Opposition leaders, trying to malign the DMK government with lies, are being torn off before the public every day. Under the leadership of Mr. Stalin, the Dravidian Model government prioritises the welfare and safety of women and will never make compromises in that regard. It will be proved again and again,” he said.
