Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo on Wednesday praised the All Progressives Congress (APC) for adopting a consensus candidate incumbent Governor Biodun Oyebanji for the June 20, 2026 Ekiti governorship election, saying the move averted costly primaries and potential litigation, freeing funds for state development. Ododo, who chaired the APC Ekiti Governorship Primary Committee, made the remarks after submitting the panel's report to the National Working Committee (NWC) chaired by National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda at the party's Abuja secretariat. He described the consensus process as peaceful, transparent, and historic, the first under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's leadership, crediting it with eliminating crisis, waste, and post-primary disputes. “History has been made in Ekiti and Nigeria. Mr. President has brought innovation to our party; others will copy this template. With consensus, there’s no litigation, no destruction, no waste of resources,” Ododo said. He commended Tinubu and Yilwatda for fostering internal democracy and a level playing field, adding that the model strengthens party unity and governance. Ododo also lauded Oyebanji’s humility and performance, saying Ekiti’s unified APC would inspire other state chapters. Governor Oyebanji, in response, urged his main challenger, Kayode Ojo, and other aspirants to rally behind him for a resounding APC victory in 2026 and bolster support for Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
