Ocean City's Sunfest has free live shows to make for rocking weekend

The shoulder season continues unabated with events at various beach towns this week, and Ocean City will celebrate a true milestone when it hosts its signature autumn festival. Ocean City's 50th annual Sunfest will rock with tribute acts, more Locals and weekend warriors alike will no doubt turn out to OC’s Inlet in droves for what will be the 50th annual Sunfest. The fun takes place 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 23-25, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26. There will be music, food and more than 200 arts and crafts vendors. While its yearly sister event Springfest still has a tent section for ticketed concerts by famous faces, admission at Sunfest will be completely free; there will be two outdoor stages with performances by 20 local and regional bands. The sounds will include country, rock, R&B and more. Many of Sunfest’s performers will be tribute acts, with homages to The Doors, Elvis Presley, Duran Duran, Van Halen and Metallica. The festival will close out Sunday with a few groups that write and record their own music, including Cleveland-based reggae group Tropidelic at 1:30 p.m. and Baltimore blues favorite the Kelly Bell Band at 4 p.m. Bachman-Turner Overdrive reunion a hot show in Ocean City Also in OC this weekend, the Ocean City Performing Arts Center will be packed when one of Canada’s most famous classic-rock exports takes the stage. The reunited Bachman-Turner Overdrive will perform at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26 ($61 to $103). BTO’s sizable catalog of hits includes “American Woman,” “Takin’ Care of Business,” “Let It Ride” and “You Ain’t See Nothing Yet.” There are very few tickets remaining, and the rear sections are the only ones that still have rows with more than just single seating. Fleetwood Mac tribute in Ocean City nearing sellout Looking ahead to next weekend at the Ocean City Performing Arts Center, tickets are also selling briskly for a 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1 appearance by national tribute act Rumours of Fleetwood Mac. The seating chart for that one currently looks very similar to BTO’s, with a mere smattering of tickets still available ($46 to $164). Get in on the spooky fun with Rehoboth's big Sea Witch Festival In downtown Rehoboth Beach, the Halloween vibe will arrive a week early as the city hosts its 35th annual SeaWitch festival Friday through Sunday, Oct. 24-26. The costume parade will take place on Rehoboth Avenue at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, complete with floats and massive inflatables. There will be music at various downtown locations including the outdoor Rehoboth Beach Bandstand. Local instrumental flamenco act Hot Sauce, which is one of Rehoboth’s most popular hometown bands, will play from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26. Amish Outlaws bring fun, free show to Dewey Beach's Starboard In Dewey Beach, the Starboard nightclub will present a free show by the Amish Outlaws at 9:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24. The high-energy party group from Pennsylvania — which will have already have helped kick off the previously-mentioned Sunfest in OC at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23 — is one of the most popular on the East Coast. Both of these appearances are rare chances for Delmarva folks to see them without having to pay a sizable cover charge. E-mail Roger Hillis at rogerhillis@gmail.com
