Varun Dhawan On Why He Prefers Comedies Over Other Genres Further, Varun Dhawan spoke about his film choices, explaining that while he enjoys experimenting with intense roles in movies like Badlapur and October, he is naturally drawn to comedies. “I seek films that are multi-genre—that have comedy, romance, family bonding, and a little bit of action. Basically, it should be something that families can watch together. While I enjoy doing other genres too, as they challenge me, I choose to do films that are light-hearted,” he said. Varun also spoke about continuing his father, filmmaker David Dhawan’s legacy by working more in the rom-com genre. He revealed that once he had asked his father why he would only make comedies, the filmmaker had told him that he believed in “making people laugh.” “I am just continuing that legacy. We have so much tension and stress around us, and in the middle of that, if we get to watch a film that can offer us a laugh or two and can bind families together, I will definitely want to do such films,” he added.
