While the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Amaravati, had given a forecast of very heavy rainfall for the central parts of Andhra Pradesh on Friday, the activity was concentrated in Kurnool and Nandyal districts of Rayalaseema, where the highest remained 130 mm. As per the IMD bulletin of 11 a.m. on Saturday (September 27), chief amount of rainfall received by different places in Rayalaseema between 8.30 a.m. on Friday and the corresponding time period on Saturday was: Aspari in Kurnool district-13 cm, Yemmiganur in Kurnool district-10 cm, Dhone in Nandyal district-9 cm, Alur and Gudur in Kurnool district 8 cm, Banaganapalle in Nandyal district 7 cm. In coastal Andhra Pradesh, the highest rainfall recorded during this period was 8 cm in Kunavaram of Alluri Sitarama Raju district followed by Kukunoor at 6 cm in Eluru district and by Mundlamuru in Prakasam district that recorded 5 cm. Other places received moderate showers. Meanwhile, the depression, formed on Friday, over the Bay of Bengal crossed south Odisha coast at 4.30 a.m. on Saturday. It lay over the same region, which is 10 km west-northwest of Gopalpur (Odisha), 120 km west-southwest of Puri (Odisha), 40 km south-southeast of Phulbani (Odisha) and 180 km east-southeast of Bhawanipatna (Odisha), as of 10 a.m., according to the IMD. While there are no alerts for Andhra Pradesh on Saturday, light to moderate rain can be expected in North Coastal A.P. and heavy rain is likely at isolated places in the State. There is no rain forecast for the State until October 2, but thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds will prevail for the next four days.
