No Kings protests are not enough; Solomon will bring world-class education to SVVSD (Letters)

No Kings protests are not enough. What more can we do? In the afterglow of the recent No Kings protests, it’s easy to slip into a self-congratulatory mindset. We showed Trump! It’s easy to show up and be counted at these events. No risk. Many were likely there with friends and neighbors supporting each other. But there are people across the country speaking out and acting at great personal risk — putting their livelihoods and safety on the line. They could stay quiet, but they choose to show up. How many of us are ready to take that leap? Many businesses, institutions and public figures have prioritized their own interests ahead of standing up for what’s right. They hope to stay in Trump’s good graces, or at least avoid his wrath. Many believe they can escape by keeping their heads down. It’s all about fear — Trump’s greatest weapon. We need to overcome that fear. Protests like No Kings rallies are valuable, but we need to raise the stakes. Think about the major social and political changes in America’s history — sit-ins, strikes, boycotts, civil disobedience. Are we ready to take those steps? Some may think we can fix this at the next election. Trump probably has a plan for that — ways to “protect” polls and ballots. He’s already testing tactics in places like L.A., D.C., Chicago and Nashville. We can’t afford to wait for another election. The time to act is now. Some groups and organizations are already leading the way. Support them. Join them. Brainstorm new ideas and share them. Trump and his cronies thrive on cruelty, degradation, humiliation and fear. We have stronger, more lasting values. We need to stand up for them with bold, direct actions. History — and Trump — have shown us there will be risks. Are we ready? Do we have any other choice? Mark Flower, Longmont Solomon will bring world-class education to SVVSD I urge you to support Hadley Solomon in the ongoing SVVSD school board election. Having worked alongside Hadley in our schools, I am confident in her ability to positively impact SVVSD, our children and their education. Hadley has spent many years advocating for students and educators alike, ensuring that every child receives a high-quality public education. Her passion for creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment is truly inspiring. Further, Hadley has raised four incredible children, all of whom matriculated through SVVSD. Hadley is a champion of educational equity and excellence, which is of the highest importance in a public education landscape threatened by vouchers, privatization and budget cuts. Hadley is passionate about enhancing hands-on learning experiences in science, business, arts and technology. Her support for programs like the Innovation Center and the Career Elevation & Technology Center will provide our students with valuable, real-world skills that will prepare them for the future. I strongly encourage you to vote for Hadley Solomon. Together, we can support the best candidate for the SVVSD School Board District B seat who supports the promise of a world-class education for all students. Jacqueline Weiss, Lyons
