NIA seeks new details from US on 26/11 terror accused Rana

National Investigation Agency has sought fresh details from the US in connection with the case linked to the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks mastermind Tahawwur Rana through Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) process, officials said. The additional queries were raised months after Rana's interrogation following his extradition to India and could help in investigation, they said. The MLAT request was routed recently through Union home ministry and forwarded to the US authorities via the Indian Embassy in Washington, as per officials. "The information sought is expected to aid the ongoing investigation and strengthen the case against him," said one of the officials, who did not wish to be identified.Rana is a key accused in the conspiracy related to the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks in which 166 people were killed and more than 238 injured. The move comes after the anti-terrorism agency filed the first supplementary charge sheet before the NIA special court in Delhi against Rana in connection with the case which pertains to a criminal conspiracy hatched by David Coleman Headley, Rana and other members of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba and Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami to carry out terrorist attacks in different parts of India.Live EventsThe supplementary charge sheet, filed in July, pertains to the submission of documents regarding the extradition of Rana and additional evidence collected by NIA. Additionally, in compliance with the order dated June 6, issued by the court, NIA has submitted a compliance report under Section 207 of the Code of Criminal Procedure Code regarding the supply of documents related to the earlier charge-sheet filed in 2011.Add as a Reliable and Trusted News Source Add Now!
